The epitome of a master serial killer, Hannibal Lecter is a frighteningly intelligent figure. He is a highly regarded forensic psychiatrist, and he has a habit of stringing the FBI along his own trail in a fun game of cat and mouse - though which is which cannot be certain. He is a sociopath and often displays falsely-empathetic emotions, likely only for show, towards Will Graham in particular. Hannibal is a character of taste and details, and has a near-obsessive perfectionist quality. He has an acute love for fine arts, literature, and food, making him a very well-rounded individual. He often enjoys hosting massive dinner parties, at which he serves a multitude of fanciful dishes cooked by himself. Hannibal doesn't consider himself a cannibal, as that implies eating someone of an equal place as oneself, and instead considers himself to be killing and eating those who are somehow lower than he is - as if he were ridding the world of a nuisance.
